Meet Walter Deleon

A proud native Washingtonian, the youngest elected Latino official in DC history, & a proven progressive leader — Walter Deleon has spent years fighting for DC residents, both here in Ward 5 and across the District.

On November 4th, 2014 at age 18, Deleon was elected as Commissioner for 5C02 with 92% of the vote and became the youngest elected official in District history.

As Commissioner, Deleon served as Secretary for ANC 5C and increased transparency by modernizing communication efforts, establishing a website, and introducing live-streamed meetings. He fought for better transportation in 5C02 by organizing to save the B8/B9 and pushing for funding of the G9 express bus routes.

Over the years Deleon has worked as a political consultant for several campaigns including as DC Coordinator for Martin O’Malley’s Presidential campaign & served on the Governor’s leadership team. He also worked as Ward 5 Coordinator on Councilmember Robert White’s campaign & Attorney General Karl Racine’s re-election campaign.

Deleon served on the DC Latino Caucus Executive Board, Commiteeman on the DC Democratic Party, and is President of DC College Democrats.
